Pet Vaccinations

As a loving pet owner, you want all of your four-legged friends to be free of viruses and diseases, and so do we! That's why we recommend pet vaccinations for all our canine and feline patients. Vaccines help protect pets from illnesses because they help strengthen the immune system. HOW do they strengthen it? With antigens. Antigens are substances that are foreign to the body that stimulate a response from the immune system, causing antibodies to be produced. These substances mimic a certain virus or disease in the body, but without causing the full symptoms. As a result, if a pet is ever exposed to the real illness for which it was vaccinated, its immune system will be prepared to fight it off.

Giving Pets the Care They Need

Simcoe Veterinary Hospital has been helping pets down the road to wellness, protecting them with vaccinations, for decades. We've also been meeting the highest standards in veterinary medicine, created by AAHA, since 2000. With that in mind, you can be confident that we'll provide only high-quality preventive care and only the care that your pet needs for a lifetime of wellness. That's why we offer both core and non-core vaccines, which allow us to accommodate the lifestyles of all of our patients.

Core Vs. Non-Core Vaccines

Core vaccines are typically considered essential for every dog and cat, which is why they're recommended by veterinarians all over the country. Non-core vaccines, on the other hand, are recommended only if a pet's lifestyle calls for it. For example, if you have a dog that spends time around other dogs, the Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine would be recommended, since this disease is contagious.

The following are some of the core and non-core vaccines that we offer for our canine and feline patients:

Canine Vaccine Examples

  • Rabies (core)
  • Distemper (core)
  • Hepatitis (core)
  • Parvovirus (core)
  • Bordetella (non-core)

Feline Vaccine Examples

  • Rabies (core)
  • Panleukopenia (core)
  • Feline calici virus (core)
  • Feline leukemia (non-core)
  • Feline immunodeficiency virus (non-core)

We'll determine which vaccines (just core, or core and non-core) are recommended for your pet during their next wellness exam. Typically, vaccines are updated every 1-3 years, during the wellness visits, so you won't have to worry about keeping track of a schedule.
